Shadowed Grace
In this piece, titled 'Shadowed Grace', I sought to capture the quiet beauty of a moment of stillness. Rendered in Charcoal pencil, the portrait is an intimate study of a subject caught in profile, her eyes gently closed. The play of light and shadow is the central theme here, with the shadow defining the delicate curve of her cheek and the grace of her jawline. This precise, clean-lined work on the face is intentionally contrasted with the loose, expressive texture of her sweater and hair, allowing the medium to come to life and enhancing the feeling of an authentic, captured moment.
This artwork was a "Let's Face It" study based on a lesson by Juna Biagioni. Juna's calming voice and unique way of thinking about her creative process were truly enlightening. The lesson provided me with new insights into a more organic, freehand approach to placing facial features—a method that allowed this piece to develop so naturally.
This drawing was a fantastic experience; it began very loosely, then grew on me as it developed organically. It’s a wonderful reminder that a piece of art can be both a technical exercise and a rewarding personal journey, a quiet moment of creation from a quiet moment of grace.
