Commissioned to capture a sun-drenched family portrait, I faced the challenge of translating the vibrant energy of the scene onto a larger scale. Due to the size of this artwork, my usual micro-hatching technique proved impractical, so I experimented with linseed oil and charcoal, discovering a new depth of expression.
Working with the interplay of light and shadow, I encountered unexpected challenges, particularly in achieving subtle tonal variations with General's charcoal. However, overcoming these obstacles proved invaluable, forcing me to trust my intuition and develop a unique approach. The final touch, the interplay of white paint and charcoal, brought the scene to life, capturing the warmth and joy of that sun-drenched moment.
