The Beloved Pierre: A Journey of Discovery and Devotion

This artwork, titled 'Pierre', holds a special place in my creative journey, being only my second original commission. Created for my beloved niece, it captures the endearing spirit of her dog, Pierre, through three distinct poses—each one a moment I personally photographed and meticulously studied.

Drawing animals, particularly the intricate textures of fur, has always presented a fascinating challenge I was eager to embrace. For Pierre, I found myself compelled to push my boundaries further, choosing not just one, but three cherished poses from our photoshoot. This decision, while ambitious for an early commission, transformed the project into a profound exploration of form and texture.

This piece truly became a labour of love, a testament to the dedication poured into every stroke. Beyond the sheer hours invested, it reflects the immense care taken to capture Pierre’s unique character and charm. The process, at times exhilaratingly nerve-wracking, was driven by the desire to craft something my niece would treasure deeply for years to come.

Through this experimental approach, I navigated the complexities of capturing life in graphite, pushing the boundaries of my burgeoning craft. The result, I believe, is a deeply personal portrayal that not only celebrates Pierre but also marks a significant milestone in my development as an artist.
