Meet "What Happened?" a colourful and characterful portrait of a Barbary macaque from Trentham Monkey Forest. His wonderfully funny expression immediately caught my attention and made him irresistible to paint. The original reference photograph was taken by my husband during one of our visits.
I particularly love painting primates. As our closest animal relatives, there is something fascinating about their faces and expressions—their eyes, features and personalities can feel surprisingly familiar, while still being completely their own. “What Happened” forms part of my Primate Collection, a series exploring the character, expressions and personalities of these fascinating animals.
This attractive piece is presented in an off-white double mount ready for framing.
"What Happened” was selected to feature in the Spring 2025 edition of Artefacts (a magazine distributed to museums and art galleries around the Birmingham area) promoting the Association of Animal Artists Spring Exhibition held at the Rose Paterson Gallery, Weston Park, Shifnal.
