"Maternal Love" captures a tender moment between a baby chimpanzee and its mother, inspired by a photograph we took during a visit to Chester Zoo.
This piece forms part of my Primate Collection, exploring the character, expressions and relationships of these fascinating animals. Of all the primates, chimpanzees are probably my favourite. There is something about their funny, sometimes almost too human-like expressions and behaviour that makes them especially captivating.
Watching the chimpanzee family was mesmerising, and it reminded me of the incredible work of Dr Jane Goodall, whose pioneering research helped show the world just how closely chimpanzees resemble us in their behaviour, relationships and emotions. The more you watch them, the more you understand why these amazing creatures are so fascinating.
