Pyre is a painting of elemental ferocity — a dark, consuming mass from which fire refuses to be extinguished. At its heart, jagged forms of molten orange and acid yellow tear through a ground of deep charcoal and burnt umber, their edges raw and urgent, like flames clawing through the remains of something ancient. The surface is extraordinarily textured — thick, encrusted paint built up in layers that catch the light and cast their own shadows, giving the work an almost sculptural presence.
The outer edges dissolve into ash-white and pale grey, as though the canvas itself has been scorched — the fire contained within a circle of its own making, a controlled burn that feels anything but controlled. Flashes of deep green glow within the darkness, organic and unexpected, suggesting life persisting at the heart of destruction.
Pyre is a painting of ritual and transformation — of endings that carry within them the possibility of renewal. Raw, visceral, and deeply compelling, it is a work for the collector who wants art that demands something of the viewer.
