Last Light over the Rig is a painting of fierce beauty and quiet reckoning. A solitary oil rig stands in stark black silhouette against a sky ablaze with amber, crimson, and molten orange — the last light of day burning with an intensity that feels both magnificent and foreboding. Its reflection fractures in the churning water below, broken into shards of red and gold among the white-capped waves.
The sea is restless and textured — pale grey and white surf breaking across a dark, rocky foreground, with unexpected flashes of blue and pink that speak to the complexity of the natural world beneath the drama above. To the left, dark cliffs or headland loom, grounding the composition in a specific, rugged geography.
The juxtaposition is deliberate and powerful: the industrial structure, cold and angular, set against a sky of overwhelming natural splendour. Last Light over the Rig asks quiet questions about what we have built, what we stand to lose, and what endures. A deeply resonant work for a contemporary collector.
