Watercolour and ink on toned paper.
There are several compelling reasons to paint this subject. The facial expression, accentuated by the interplay of bright light and shadows across her face, immediately draws the viewer's attention. Additionally, the intricate tattoo adds a layer of personal storytelling to the composition.
One aspect of painting is the array of colours present in sunlit hair. In this artwork, I began by underpainting, then laying colours for the final result. The addition of bright white strands, achieved using ink and a fine brush, brings a luminous quality to the hair, capturing the feeling of bright sunlight .
