„Connection" explores emotional maturation through the complexity of human relationships — moments in which closeness transforms identity and reshapes the way individuals understand themselves and one another. Inspired by the psychological depth of cinematic storytelling, the work reflects a bond formed under unexpected circumstances, where vulnerability becomes the foundation of growth.
The composition portrays a relationship defined not by clear roles, but by emotional exchange. The traditional boundaries between protector and protected gradually dissolve, revealing a mutual process of becoming. Care turns into learning, innocence encounters experience, and emotional distance gives way to connection. Each figure evolves through the presence of the other, suggesting that identity is often shaped not in isolation but through shared experience.
Layered newspaper fragments introduce the outside world — a reality marked by violence, uncertainty, and social narratives — contrasting with the intimate psychological space created between the characters. Within this tension, connection emerges as an act of quiet resistance: a human response to loneliness and emotional detachment.
Textural surfaces and collage elements mirror the fragile and layered nature of relationships themselves. Imperfections, overlaps, and interruptions reflect how emotional bonds are formed gradually, through trust, conflict, and vulnerability rather than certainty. The visual language emphasizes that maturity is not a sudden transformation but a process unfolding through interaction.
As part of the series ICONS OF IDENTITY, "Connection" examines how relationships become catalysts for self-discovery. The work proposes that identity is not fixed but continuously shaped through encounters that challenge emotional boundaries and redefine what it means to care, to protect, and ultimately, to belong.
