About this artwork

60 × 60 cm | Oil, collage, newspapers, spray, texture on canvas | 2026 | Original artwork

BAD GIRL is a mixed-media portrait inspired by an iconic image of Madonna from the visual campaign of her 1993 single Bad Girl, fused with the restrictive black cord motif referencing her 2015 album imagery Rebel Heart.
The composition confronts the paradox of female autonomy within public imagery. The black cord, drawn tightly across the face, functions as both a symbolic restraint and a visual act of censorship — an imposed structure controlling expression, identity, and desire. The gesture suggests entanglement: not only personal, but cultural, where freedom is negotiated through visibility and control.
Layered newspapers evoke mass media narratives, editorial framing, and the persistent rewriting of female icons by external forces. Spray marks and gestural crosses disrupt the polished surface, emphasizing resistance beneath the constructed image.
BAD GIRL operates within the CENSORED DESIRE collection as a statement on power, exposure, and the cost of self-definition. What appears provocative is, in fact, constrained — desire filtered through regulation, rebellion wrapped in control.
