About this artwork

60 × 60 cm | Oil, collage, newspapers, spray, texture on canvas | 2026 | Original artwork

CENSORED draws inspiration from the iconic 2013 Rolling Stone portrait of Rihanna—an image that defined her transition into a darker, more confrontational public persona.
In this work, the artist amplifies that moment, pushing the gangster aesthetic and sensuality beyond editorial glamour into the territory of power, control, and provocation.
Layered with newspapers, painterly textures, spray interventions, and graphic censorship, the composition explores how female icons are simultaneously idolized and restricted. The act of “censoring” becomes paradoxical: what is meant to conceal only intensifies presence.
The figure confronts the viewer with unapologetic confidence—sensual, defiant, and self-aware. Black marks, crosses, and distressed surfaces reference surveillance, moral judgment, and media manipulation, while the raw collage structure exposes the construction behind the myth.
CENSORED is not a portrait of a celebrity, but a statement on autonomy, sexuality, and the price of visibility. It captures the tension between desire and dominance—where power lies not in being seen, but in deciding what cannot be erased.
