About this artwork

This was the first of 4 pics I did at the Pintar Rapido London, on 22nd June 2019, but I didn't exhibit it, as it didn't go with the frames I had made. There was a sign over the road saying Queen's Gate, but I was basically lost, and just looking for somewhere interesting to draw. I made this one and the pale brown one in the same spot, sitting or kneeling on the pavement with my back to a fence, talking to the passing dogs and some of the people who stopped to look. And the people came and went in my picture, too. I started with a bit of brown watercolour and a bit of blue and slooped them around and drew into the wet paint with a pencil, and painted a bit more and added pastel, and painted with the pastel and drew into it, and generally was altogether messy but enjoying it. The wet pastel works more like a gouache, and partially conceals what you paint it onto, and it's lovely for drawing into, and of course, wet paper is lovely for drawing pastel onto, too. So, some of the characters, cars, etc, have come and gone, but I got to a point where the shadows had all changed and it was time to go and get something to drink as I was dehydrating rapidly, so I did one more picture... I am asking my local gallery if they want to sell it before advertising it as on sale here.
