About this artwork

This was the picture that won me a prize in the 2019 Pintar Rapido on 22nd June! I made 4 pictures on the day in London, mostly lost, and all on Saunders Waterford paper. It was lovely to sit in the lush green and see my first "wild" parakeet zoom overhead, and the relaxed atmosphere, having spent all morning drawing by a busy crossroads. I liked the fact that even though we were right in the heart of the city, the children were able to play and have real fun, and there were people talking and sleeping and being walked by their dogs. A refuge :-) Oh, and I made it by sloshing brown ink onto the paper, drawing into it with pencil and dip pen, a bit of watercolour and some pastel- but you paint a bit, draw a bit, paint a bit, do the pastels into the wet, paint them around and so you're constantly changing what you are using. In the case of this picture, I hadn't settled on how I was doing it initially, so, as well as the small boy in the tree in the centre, there are figures apparently walking in the treetops to the right, but I've mostly covered over them. Thank you to everyone for a really good day!
