About this artwork

This is the third painting of a series of landscapes with a difference. I have always noticed animal and human forms within trees and my discovery of the dryad legend confirmed this suspicion. Dryads are exclusively female tree spirits who inhabit their own tree. One particular type of Dryad has the ability to merge her own form with that of the tree and this idea gave rise to this series of paintings. My intention was that the perception of the viewer should initially recognise the trees with the figures becoming apparent on closer inspection. The pathway depicted is real and can be seen in Almondbury Cemetery. The trees are also real with only small changes required to achieve the Dryad form. The avenue of trees suggested a chorus line of arborial dancers.
