This work is a vibrant celebration of one of the rivers most iconic inhabitants. Utilising a wet-on-wet acrylic technique, I aimed to capture the energetic 'atmosphere' of the riverbank, blending greens, yellows, and blues to create a soft, impressionistic backdrop that suggests sunlight filtering through overhanging branches.
The kingfisher itself is the focal point of the composition, rendered with bold, saturated oranges and deep cerulean blues. By working wet paint into wet paint, I was able to achieve a sense of fluid integration between the bird and its environment, mirroring the way these birds seem to emerge and vanish back into the river landscape in a flash of color. This piece represents a continuation of my fascination with the wildlife I encounter while angling, focusing on the vivid beauty found in moments of quiet observation.
