This work was developed through a systematic layering process on a gessoed cotton canvas. Beginning with a light pencil sketch to establish the composition, I worked from the background forward to create a sense of atmospheric depth.
The sunset sky was achieved using a wet-on-wet technique, allowing the acrylics to blend softly on the canvas to capture the hazy, diffused light of the horizon. As the painting progressed toward the middle and foreground, I transitioned to a wet-on-dry approach. This allowed for crisper definition in the structural elements, such as the timber of the cabin and the slender trunks of the birch trees, which helps to establish a clear sense of perspective and distance within the woodland. The final result is a play between the fluid, soft-focus light of the sky and the tactile, defined textures of the forest floor
