This piece was executed through a rapid, three-stage wet-on-wet process on canvas, designed to mirror the fluid and unpredictable nature of the water. I began with a saturated, light-filled background, blending warm acrylic tones while the paint was still active to create a soft, glowing horizon.
The central figure of the fish was then worked directly into this atmosphere, using bold strokes to define its form while allowing the edges to remain soft and integrated with the surrounding light. The final layer involved the application of the sea; using high-contrast blues and whites, I applied the paint with energetic movements to simulate the splash and churn of the breaking surface. By maintaining a wet-on-wet approach throughout the entire composition, the work retains a sense of urgency and movement, capturing the exact second of a strike on the water.
