An oil on canvas of Happisburgh lighthouse. This is another historic landmark for Norfolk and one that may be lost to erosion soon so I wanted to do this before anything bad happens. It is so close to the cliff side now that I wanted to create that feeling by having that hard line between the stubble field and the sky on the right hand side where there is literally nothing behind this field but the sea far below and the silent summer sky ahead. I almost destroyed this painting after many hours of solid painting and tiredness due to the many ideas I had for the field as in real it was very flat and bright and the rows of stubble were going width ways across the field and I wanted some shape and colour and a little more feeling of distance so I changed the direction of the stubble rows and was a little overwhelmed by the changes but I was convinced to return to it in the light of morning where soon after I managed to call it complete.
