'Harriet 2' was my second study of my dog, Harriet. It was based on sketches made on Drumclog Moor near Glasgow – a favourite weekend walking place when we lived in Scotland – and photographs I took of Harry, gazing longingly up a tree after a disappearing squirrel, as the sun set. It took me a while to persuade her it was home time that day, and we walked the rest of the way to Milngavie in near darkness, whilst the squirrel slept soundly in his nest. I wanted to capture the halo effect of the light behind her, and the longing in her eyes. This study was made using a 0.1mm technical pen and ink, on watercolour paper.
