An Achil island view drawn with charcoal. I use charcoal now for large drawings when in the past I used graphite stick. These thick stubby sticks were incredibly soft giving a rich velvety black reminiscent of the backs possible from etching. I think it was helped by some sheets of cartridge paper given to me by my dad. Unfortunately the Kent based paper mill closed many years ago.
