‘Our son Brody has ASD, learning delay, scoliosis, epilepsy and suffers from severe anxiety.
Even by 10 or 11 years old, he would only speak if asked a question. He didn’t volunteer much and was anxious.
All the time.
We thought a dog would help calm him, so we did our research and purchased ‘Miss Pippin’, a ‘Jacobetan’ - half Jack Russell and half Tibetan Terrier.
Initially, Brody was wary of Pippin, as she got lots of our attention and was a bit unpredictable, which Brody found difficult.
Then I had the idea of creating a ‘pet voice’ for Pippin, so she could bond with him - I made her character a bit cheeky - like one of his beloved animated film characters.
Very quickly, Brody fell in love with Pippin’s character, giving him confidence.
Eventually he started talking back to her.
Then to us.
And then to the rest of the world.'
