After graduating from Birmingham Art College I worked as a graphic designer at the BBC for just long enough to realise that there had to be more than designing symbols for weather maps. I escaped quickly into teaching art, which offered more of a challenge, was certainly more satisfying, and allowed me to work with some wonderfully talented art teachers and students. Following the completion of a Masters degree at Liverpool University School of Architecture I began to take my own work more seriously. I prefer to paint in oil, but I enjoy most media including photography and watercolour. I am based in Lancashire, but I am drawn to the North East for much of my inspiration. The bright colours of the traditional fishing boats against the grey seas and skies, the views of red roof tiles washed by North Sea light  always bring me back.
