About this artwork

Another drawing that started out as an evening doodle in front of the TV!

In this image, a fantastical equine figure emerges, woven intricately with sinewy branches that twist and coil like veins or neural pathways across its form. The horse's head, almost mask-like, is adorned with vivid swirls of turquoise and fiery orange, colours that clash and meld in a dance of energy and tension. The eyes pierce the viewer as if peering through layers of reality, evoking a sense of mysticism and enigmatic knowing.

The background, a chaotic tapestry of blue and rusty orange, appears almost molten, as if the horse steps out from the depths of a living forest or an otherworldly forge. The branches that enmesh the horse suggest both enclosure and connection—captivity and unity—hinting at themes of nature intertwined with the spirit or the mechanistic.

From a symbolic perspective, this hybrid between organic and mechanical touches upon ideas from mythologies where horses are guides between worlds, carriers of souls, or emblematic of freedom and raw power. The surreal interplay of colours and textures might represent the tension between natural vitality and the encroachment of human-made systems or constraints.

Scientifically, the tangled branches could be likened to neural networks or fractal patterns, suggesting underlying complexity or the interconnectedness of all living and non-living matter. The horse standing amidst these fractal webs embodies a liminal figure—caught between order and chaos, natural and synthetic.
