Hi, I'm David and at 62 I'm finally doing something I should have done at 22 - painting. Back in 2020, I decided to have a small summer house built in my back garden. Unfortunately, Covid happened, putting a hold on things for a while. Soon though, the work was underway again and my little summerhouse was finished. This would become my studio. At the time I was teaching plumbing courses at a local college and not enjoying it at all. I needed something to look forward to at the end of the day/week, then I rediscovered a past love - photography, and still enjoy it from time to time. after some health issues though I found it wasn't really viable to do the all the walking you so often need to do to get 'good' photos. But all was not lost. As a child (and as a young man), drawing and painting were my passion, but I never felt that I was very good at it and as a young man, life took over, as it so often does - work, marriage, and family life, so art was put on the 'back burner', as they say. Perhaps not surprisingly, the 'back burner' eventually went out and my passion for art largely faded away. Then in 2024 I found some old watercolour paintings and some sketches in the loft (roof space) and my passion for art was rekindled - this time with the determination to become 'good' at it. Now I use my photos as reference materials to sketch and paint from, and with the help of the many generous artists who post YouTube videos, I was able to polish up my painting and drawing skills. Am I any good at it? Well, I am definitely greatly improved and getting better, painting in watercolour, acrylics and oils on a variety of substrates. If you have read this - thank you, I hope you enjoy seeing my work, but of course, 'good' is very, very subjective, so I'll let you decide. And, If you are an artist, don't wait 40 years like me to do it, because remember, as all the best grandfather clocks say, "tempus fugit", or "time flies", all too quickly in my opinion.
