About this artwork

My painting shows bright reef fish swimming through a crevice in the coral reefs along the north coast of Jamaica, near Ocho Rios. It was inspired by a photo taken by Belinda Morrow, of the White River Fish Sanctuary and Jamaica Inn Foundation.

The acrylic surface incorporates various found objects to create texture, like nylon citrus packaging, reminiscent of fishing nets. It reminds us of the damage being done to the marine environment by the commercial fishing industry by abandoning nets and over-fishing. Soon a scene like this one with clear water and beautiful Black Bar Soldierfish, will be a thing of the past.

The sale of this painting will benefit the White River Fish Sanctuary and their community based projects to safeguard the livelihood of local fishermen and protect the reefs.

The painting has many layers of texture, created on a wood panel and then framed with a custom made, locally crafted white wooden frame. It is ready to hang.
