I am a completely self taught artist and although I did not set out to become a Wildlife artist, my passion for the natural world and conservation has brought me to the point where I now almost exclusively paint Wildlife subjects.
My numerous visits to Africa have inspired most of my work over recent years but I have a love for all animals and so I also paint British Wildlife or indeed subjects from any other part of the world.
I?m never without a sketchbook to hand and so I am constantly drawing. Wildlife subjects rarely stay still for long enough to be drawn in detail and so some sketches stay in the sketchbook while others become the platform from which I develop a more in depth idea or a detailed painting.
From my travels I also produce paintings of the indigenous people, the Masai being a favourite subject. Some of my Masai friends have bestowed upon me the honorary Masai name ?Olaishorani?, meaning one who paints and draws pictures.
My influences are firstly everything I see and experience around me and I try to convey a particular atmosphere from a place or a scene that I have witnessed when I work on my paintings. The contemporary artists who have influenced me the most are the great realist nature painters Carl Brenders and Daniel Smith.
