I am a self-taught artist with a love of portraiture and have recently taking up drawing again after a gap of  over 20 years.  I work from preparatory sketches either from life or from photographs that I have taken myself of my sitter.  I love to find a reflective pose or capture an unguarded moment and I always try to capture not just a likeness but to also breathe life into my finished work.  I greatly admire the works of John Singer Sargent and the wonderfully expressive work of Degas and the Impressionists, but I also love to study all the great masters of the human form both past and present. I am fascinated by the talents of others.  This year I am introducing more colour into my work and am curently exploring the wonderful medium of pastels.
