About this artwork

An usual family portrait if ever there was one; one with a very modern take - the ubiquitious selfie - and a sad backstory.

The painting depicts Lisa and Billy having some selfie fun and if you look closer, you can just make out their two young sons' heads in Lisa's sunglasses. Wonderful memories of a fun-filled family day.

Last year, Billy died unexpectedly leaving Lisa and their two boys absolutely heartbroken.

I do not usually do couple or family portraits due to the time it can take, but having gone through all the reference pictures I was sent, this one stood out a mile for the joy and happiness it reflected of their family life.

In the reflection of Lisa's sunglasses I could clearly see a little head and knew it was one of their boys, so added their other son to make it into an unsual and very personal family portrait.

The title encompasses how Lisa and the boys can indeed reflect on all the happy times they had and not just this one, as well as their boys being reflected in their mum's shades.
