Julie studied at the Jacob Kramer College of Art, Leeds, UK and began accept commissions whilst still a student.
She has worked as a commercial artist in both the UK and in South Africa where she lived for nearly twenty years.
Africa had a deep and abiding effect on her work. Julie began to explore different drawing and painting techniques across a wide range of subjects including many commissioned portraits.
Returning to England in 1998 with her husband and three children Julie now lives in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. Working from her idyllic riverside studio on the River Nidd is a total contrast to her lifestyle in Johannesburg, but brings a sense of returning to her roots.
However, Africa remains a great source of inspiration.
In 2003 Julies equine portrait entitled ?Cossack Guard? was exhibited in the Mall Galleries London, as part of the 'Not The Turner Prize Competition'.
Her paintings now hang in private homes and businesses in North America, Australia, Kenya, South Africa, France, Spain, Ireland and England.
As an artist Julie Cope feels her primary aim is simply to observe and to attempt to capture the beauty of creation
