I am primarily interested in people and the space
around them. I am fascinated by how people feel in different interior spaces and I create distorted, fantastical and atmospheric interiors. The process of making this work involves sculpture, photography and painting, reflecting my interest in transformations between two and three dimensions. I also express my love of painting people through portrait painting using the background colours & shapes as elements to enhance the portrait.
I often start by creating a distorted architectural model with painted detail, and then I photograph it. This creates an image in which reality becomes ambiguous and different worlds or levels of reality are suggested. I sometimes take this a step further by cutting
up the prints and sticking them together to create new three-dimensional forms and spaces. Other times I make the ink run in digital prints to blend photography and painting.
It is important to me to connect art to real life. I love taking inspiration from particular locations, producing art for particular public buildings, working alongside people from communities, and creating artwork that is accessible to many people.
