Working occupations are fantastic subjects. While they appeal to people who appreciate the graphic form and historical connotation, they also attract ordinary people who share an emotional connection. Frank Docherty uses working occupations and history as subject matter in his work for several reasons. He enjoys the variety of history and modern occupations from a technical standpoint, and finds them versatile subjects. However, his goal is not to draw a representational portrait, but to portray a deeper emotional connection.

In general, Docherty creates his work in three structures. The first is reminiscent of a historical subject where the character is the primary. These pieces evoke the feeling of longing and curiosity, and involve wit and humor. The second form contains the elements of everyday people and their work. The third structure is free form-depicting the subject by showing it in an act that summarizes its personality.

Born in London, England in 1965, Frank Docherty has Drawn most of his life and is a self taught artist.
