Francesca Whetnall is a painter and printmaker working with a wide vocabulary of subject matter. After concentrating on watercolour for many years, a course at Bournemouth’s Arts Institute re-ignited Francesca’s passion for printmaking. Inspired by Hockney, Kandinsky and Edward Bawden she creates vibrant linocuts, monoprints and collagraphs. In 2012 Francesca ran a series of printmaking workshops for adults and children at the Arlington Arts Café and will be running further workshops at Poole Printmaking studio in 2013.
Originally from London where she studied at Wimbledon School of Art in the early 90s, Francesca is now based on the beautiful South Coast. She has exhibited work at Bankside gallery in London and at galleries in Poole, Winchester, Southampton and Hastings. Francesca is a member of Red Hot Press in Southampton and Poole Printmakers with whom she regularly exhibits. She is also a keen member of the thriving international portrait group ‘Julia Kay’s portrait party’. Her work is in private collections worldwide.
Francesca’s love of colour and her graphic, illustrative approach shines through her work, whether the subject is portrait, landscape, still life or abstract. She thrives on variety and each new technique or subject benefits from the vibrancy and excitement of the new.
