Born in Rothbury Northumbeland, David grew up in the mining town of
Ashington, and worked and lived in the North East of England all his life.

He retired early from his position as head of art in a
large comprehensive school to pursue his own art career as an artist. Much of
his work is in private collections, both here and abroad and he has exhibited
work both locally and in many other parts of the country including London.

The great variety and contrasting nature of the
Northumbrian landscape and industry in which he grew up, together with its
population have been responsible for shaping both the subject matter of his work
and his approach to painting.

As well as being inspired by the wonderful sweeping
beaches, glorious hills and beautiful architecture David is also interested in
more intimate scenes in this landscape such as streams, rock pools and of course
the people.

These intimate scenes can often remain unnoticed and
through his detailed observations he tries to bring them to our attention.

David strives through his paintings try to reveal
moments of rich composition of colour, texture and movement.
