Caroline Hughes - Wildlife Artist
I grew up in the Gloucestershire area surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside. I have loved all animals and nature from a very early age.
Being out in the wild countryside is definitely my ‘happy place’ where I can feel at peace and grounded, away from the noise of the world. I am regularly out on walks with my husband, both of us taking photos of anything we see of interest.
I come from an arty family. My mother went to Art College and had a love of oil painting. Others in the family carry the talent forward too, my nieces went into book illustrating and pet portraits.
It wasn’t until the 2020, with time on my hands that I discovered Coloured Pencil drawing. I found Artist workshops and tutorials online and this is where my love of Coloured Pencil drawing blossomed. I love the fine, realistic details that can be achieved.
I started drawing animals and now I also draw birds from photos that my husband (a Wildlife Photographer) takes around the Gloucestershire area.
Coloured pencils are a wonderfully versatile medium, perfect for capturing fine details and expressing the natural beauty that surrounds us. The drawing is built up slowly, using both oil- and wax-based pencils to layer and blend colours, creating texture, depth, and shadow.
Each piece takes many hours to complete, but the process is peaceful and deeply rewarding — a chance to really connect with the subject matter.
All prints can be sized at 11x14", 10 x 12", 10 x 8" or smaller, mounted and ready to go into standard, 'off the shelf' frames.
