This oil on canvas shows the view upstream from the road bridge over the River Derwent, Belper, Derbyshire. The horseshoe weir was part of the historic Strutt's Mill complex (part of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site) and the river is still used to generate electricity here. The broad expanse of water upstream of the weir is the Edwardian Belper River Gardens.
