It was during his early education in Ipswich, Suffolk, that John began to draw and paint. At the age of 14 he was awarded the Anna Airy R.A. Prize for Fine Art.
He studied in London to become a graphic design graduate in 1966. In the following years he worked as a graphic designer, film producer, illustrator and painter in watercolour, acrylic and oils.
His work hangs in collections in England, France, Canada, the USA and Australia.
He has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and has had several one-man shows including the Bath Festival.
The subject matter for his paintings come from his love of sailing boats, the ever changing light that reflects on the sea or the mud flats of estuaries at low tide and visits to unspoilt, wild and natural places in the countryside. Exploration 'off the beaten track' produces much inspiration to paint the mood of the moment, the surrounding environment and the wildlife that inhabits it.
His studio and home is in the small hamlet of Spirthill near Calne in Wiltshire. WEBSITE www.johnlharris.co.uk
